Below are a series of emails I received that describe Madpole's holiday trip to Amsterdam, in particular his attempts to meet a mutual dutch friend, whom we will call Mr K. It is a farcical disaster, and very funny, too good not to share with you.

Email from madpole (in amsterdam) to Mr k (cc'ed to me)
Mr K,
Where are You, dumbed it?!! I spent half a day trying to find working phone box in Amsterdam and when I found it I could not get through to You... it was ringing and ringing and then "cutting off"...

Here is the "latest" plan: I will be waiting at Central Station Taxi Rank at 16:00 on Friday... maybe 18:00 too? And tomorrow (Saturday) the same schedule: 14:00 and 16:00

Email from Mr k (in Amsterdam) to me
Madpole is in Amsterdam and we arranged to meet on Friday, but due to some tragic misunderstanding, we missed each other. However, I don't understand why he didn't call me or e-mail. I actually went to an internet cafe in order to get in touch with him, but he didn't respond. In fact, he still hasn't responded to my e-mails. I've been looking around for him for hours. Eventually I e-mailed him to tell him I was going to that bar and I explained to him how to get there, but he didn't show up...

[At this point Mr K met a cute chick whilst waiting for Madpole in the cafe: time passed pleasantly - Eadon]

...I lost my notion of time, and in fact I missed the last train to Arnhem. There was a train to Utrecht and I thought there was a train from Utrecht to Arnhem, but there wasn't :) Only on Saturdays! So I had to wait there for about five hours, and even though it's an indoor train station, it was chilly there. At least I know what it must be like to be homeless now ;)

Email from madpole (back in england) to me
Just a quick "check-in".. ... yeah.... The Amsterdam experiment got a bit outside its scope... although strangely enough it kindda has not... nothing went to plan and everything kindda did... it was kindda being observant and object of observation scenario but it wasn't necessarily pleasant hehehe... anyways... more about that later... I haven't talked to anybody for 6 days so I am a bit short on words hehehe..... Thank god I met Charlotte and Dimitri although unfortunately that happened too late and for too brief moment.... oh well.... I can feel winter depression coming on hehehehe....I just wish I had some herbal remedy damn it! ;-)

Email from Mr K to me
As you probably know, Madpole has returned to England without meeting me. I am not sure if I told you, but I went to Amsterdam to meet him, and when we didn't find each other, I went to an internet cafe to e-mail him, but he never contacted me after that. I went to that bar again and promised the girls that I would bring him over the next time. Now I´m going to have to get over there and tell them what went wrong. Charlotte told me she told Madpole that I had been looking for him for hours, and allegedly he was so shocked and full of guilt that he returned to England feeling bad about himself and me. I can´t feel sorry for him. When he had finally collected enough courage to e-mail me, he told me the trip had been ´bad, i.e. spiritually good and painful´...yeah right.
By the way, Ania [Ania is a Polish barmaid Mr K and I met a couple of weeks ago - she works at the cafe and we promised her she would soon meet the famous Madpole - Eadon] wasn't a bit surprised when I tried to explain what Madpole is like. 'All Polish people are like that', was her simple response :-)
