MadPole Mad Pope

For your delectation, below part five of my correspondence with the insane philosopher who is the only mortal who actually knows the truth.

Typical MadPole quote:

"And hey presto, suddenly I feel direct relation of Good Old Grandpa Big Bang!"

MadPole: It is quite funny how You can spot Catholic Priest from miles.... he will be the one who visits You for a drink or two....

eadon: Or if you are a woman, maybe more than that! Or if you are a choir boy...

MadPole: [Religion at time: undefined, if any] But still.... Bible DOES contain the truth..... It is just a matter of interpretation. It took me probably 20 years of hatred towards bible and catholic religion to realise that. But I am interested in Bible although find the style very difficult to read.

eadon: [Religion at time: atheist] I agree, it's very interesting, though very dodgy. I suspect that a lot of the biblical stories are meant to be metaphorical and allegorical. In those days story telling was allegorical. But people these days often insist on taking everything literally. If it was not meant to be taken literally then the bible makes more sense. I also have a deep suspicion that nearly all of the real meaning is lost in the translation from the ancient Hebrew.

MadPole: I was thinking absolutely the same thing! One is not in a position to discuss the bible until one read it in its original form and language. And we simply do not have this opportunity.

eadon: Incest is another thing in the bible writ large. All these things that are supposed to be sins are celebrated in the Old Testament. It's quite amazing considering how preachy the church is about avoiding sin. I think that the modern church is perhaps not true to the real spirit of Christianity.

MadPole: You see - it all makes sense - it is that somebody totally changed the concepts of the whole thing! Usual human striving for power! Sin is a symbol and very clear symbol.... unfortunately it is not a symbol of what Catholic Priests claim it is.....but I think I understand what Jesus had in mind..... the fact whether Jesus existed or not is totally irrelevant here..... some information has been written and it is obvious that this information came from THE SOURCE.... whoever wrote it is not important.....we are all part of this SOURCE.

eadon: The Bible is interesting in the same way as fairy tales! There are true elements are there are untrue elements.

MadPole: And what's wrong with fairy tales?!!! And what's the difference between fairy tales, bible or detective story? Levels, levels again. Go deeper, deeper down. Raise above the letters. Raise above the content. Raise above interpretations. Forget about book, print. Go further than that. Treat yourself! Take yourself for a journey to the source. Stepping back and back... Breaking the barriers and seeing the levels. And how they are glued together. There is a book. There is thought which produced this book. There is a brain which produced this thought. There is a matter which produced this brain.

It is always fun to see things "behind" something, to see the cause of the effect, to see how knowledge flows through everything, to see how unrelated incidents start to form a pattern, develop and gain shape. There is always "something" "behind" "something". No conclusion is final. The thought of my brain takes me to animal, then veggie worlds, and all the way to the big bang, and hey presto, suddenly I feel direct relation of Good Old Grandpa Big Bang!

eadon: When I said the Bible is like a fairy tale, it is denigrating to the bible because it [the Bible] makes claims to be much more. But fairy tales themselves are splendid! Where would childhood be without them? My worry is that political correctness will ruin new ones. I hope to reread some Brothers Grimm tales at some stage. Books are full of levels. Atoms make paper and ink which make letters which form words, sentences, paragraphs, chapters and books. The meaning of a book is not expressed directly in any one sentence. It is something that arose from these things when taken together. I reckon that a book containing only untruths could have a true meaning or true levels of meanings. This is probably the best type of book! Lies on one level lead to truth on another.

MadPole: The [Bible] message is this: that we, allegedly the most intelligent creatures on this planet (which I don't believe in) are enslaving ourselves like mad! That all the suffering could end today - we imposed it all on ourselves for God knows what reason. Anyway - Bible and Relativity: Once one starts to see actions, interactions, different aspects, different levels, how they are glued together, how they work...basically ... the more one loses the tight grasp on definitions, the more choice of freedom one has.

I start to come to the conclusion that religion is absolutely not what we think it is. Our brains get very confused about religion. On one hand we all admit freely that we have our own mini-religions, with mini-rituals, prayers, wishing... On another hand we come across this or other religion or cult and our brain immediately asks the question: "Is this true?". And tries to analyse it to the bone..

eadon:Update on my religion research... Reading Matthew. Curiously it seems to be saying pretty much the exact opposite, morally speaking, to Genesis and Exodus. No wonder the Jews had problems with the New Testament. From what I have read so far, the bible is nothing if not totally self contradictory and confused. I would say the Bible needs to be taken with a pinch (pillar?!) of salt. You can't believe all of the Bible because it says one thing one time and the opposite another time. Therefore, which bits do you believe? I say, not a lot. I am willing to believe that many of the protagonists did live, but the supernatural stuff seems extremely iffy. My theory is that much of it is meant to be allegorical. I am slightly disappointed. I thought the Bible would be better. But it is still extremely interesting in its own right, and I love some of the sayings, an eye for an eye, etc.

MadPole: We are just carriers of the knowledge. This realisation is immense source of. .... knowledge! We are just a carriers, but we insist on being the authors.... And we spend so much time insisting on it that we don't notice the other 90% of the knowledge being passed through us and distributed by very us, because we are too busy trying to prove to the whole world that we are the authors of the 10% our poor, cowardly brains managed to grasp!
