MadPole
Ego Manic
For your delectation,
below part six of my correspondence
with the insane philosopher MadPole,
who is the only mortal who actually knows the
truth.
Typical MadPole
quote:
"I realise that it
is my EGO which gets a b*ll*cking - not me!"
eadon:
We saw the eclipse (95%), sky was clear enough
then immediately clouded over.
MadPole:
Hey Ho! We had 96.6% eclipse, sky was clear
enough then immediately clouded over. Ignorance
is a bliss! For the last few years I have been
under impression that being a human is some
kind of terrible punishment! I would love to
be a sheep, a dog or whatever! Dolphins sussed
it out! And Sausage Factory? Pink Floyd again!
We as a whole race keep enslaving ourselves
... I don't get it at all anymore! Even animals
don't do it! We are the only species on this
planet in a position to get what we want and
to define our world and our lives...... and
we do in a way so we all hate it and ask ourselves
"why does it have to be like that?" And the
only, however depressing, answer is: "because
that's what we decided".
Anyway - time for a lunch time trip to Tesco's
! And the thunder is just about to start...
eadon:
I don't think we decided that the world should
be like that. I think that it is down to levels
again. People want to be happy. So they think
they will be happier if they are rich. So they
make decisions based on that. The result is
the world we know. It emerged from decisions
that have nothing to do with it. The animals
are also in the same situation. They eat one
another and are themselves munched by other
animals. But they didn't collectively turn round
and say, "Hey, let's eat each other!" Likewise,
no one made a decision that said, lets all stop
being cavemen and go to work. It happened through
forces of our devising but not controlled by
us.
MadPole:
My point exactly! No, we haven't decided anything
consciously and yet we are the only beings responsible
for the state of the affairs! Levels and forces.....
and now it becomes very clear why religion!
Animals don't have choice - we do. This is THE
ONLY difference I can think of between us and
animal world. And really, the very basic function
of any religion is to prove to us just that
- that: -) Whatever world we are living in -
is our own making - even if without our conscious
effort -) Whatever world we are living in -
we can change. BY our conscious effort Err....sums
it up really, doesn't it ???????
eadon:
Can we really change the world by conscious
will? It depends whether the system had conditioned
us to leave it alone. Look at evolution: the
system that survives is the one that tricks
us into preserving it. We cannot change it because
we co-evolved. If we could change the world
then it would change all the time and would
be unstable until it reached a level of stability.
I think Evolution is behind all this - you were
right all along.
MadPole:
Absolutely true! But this is just one level!
Of course we can change something we created
ourselves! But your point remains valid...it
is not a case of "Let's f**king make some changes
here" job!
eadon:
That's a fascinating question - can you change
something we created ourselves? Perhaps that
something is the will of millions and so it
cannot be changed. No one man could legalise
murder in the Western world (except state executions).
And I think the system evolves to be stable,
maybe with short bursts of change, industrial
revolution, Internet. I don't think that these
were controlled in their entirety. It was the
will of millions and it happened, like a storm
is different from its raindrops. One raindrop
cannot change a storm. And chaos theory says
small changes in 'complex systems' can have
results but they are absolutely unpredictable.
I don't see how we can control the change in
most cases.
MadPole:
I will just turn it around for a time being:
"The situation I am in is my own doing. And
I know it although I don't necessarily know
how exactly I managed to do it. I am not talking
about single decision or anything like that.
I am talking about our influence on the whole
world! Perhaps I try different "turn around"
- you say some things might be impossible to
change because of the impact all others have.
But let's not be so modest! You have an impact
on others as well..... and don't forget that
your impact on others impacts others! Shortly
- "one against many" does it work in this case
- You singly-handedly can have the same impact
on all others as they have on You
MadPole:
It never ends and there is no end or beginning
as You very well know yourself! This is in fact
the most wonderful thing about "life and universe"
- because there is no starting point and no
ending point - any point is good to start or
finish something. Relativity is a wonderful
thing (but obviously it is easy to make it a
wonderful excuse). You also made me realise
that relativity is also a synonym for wholeness.
Because if any point can be starting or ending
point and everything in between - the obvious
conclusion is that every point IS starting,
ending and everything in between! Everything
is good and bad and everything else in between.
Everything is nice and awful and everything
in between.
Perception is a funny thing! I have spent 2
days sulking, licking my wounds and feeling
that there is no hope. And then it took me 5
minutes to just laugh it off and see how stupid
and stubborn and imaginary all my worries and
depression was! What a waste of 2 days! I still
laugh and laugh and laugh. Brilliant example
of power of perception! My pain and suffering
were real. But there were absolute waste of
time since the problem never existed in the
first place! Or rather it did - but it was up
to me how to look at it - for 2 days I saw it
as a "no way out" problem - then, natural survival
instinct took over and suddenly, within 5 minutes,
what was a desperate situation turned out to
be the most wonderful situation I could imagine!
But I can see the whole reason why we commit
this masochistic acts and torture ourselves:
it is all to do with breaking the bloody EGO!
I had at least 3 toughest situations in my life
when my EGO got totally destroyed! It was hard,
it hurt, but at the end of the day each time
I realise that it is my EGO which gets b*ll*cking
- not me!
eadon:
There's dynamic verses static and nonlinear
levels of layers. The non-linearity means that
the concept of a beginning and an end can be
meaningless. You could have levels of levels,
like material levels, consciousness levels,
levels of meaning, levels of interaction, and
so on. Take life - what is the lowest level?
The atoms? The quarks and electrons? and the
highest is what? Consciousness? Is there something
higher than that? Can anything be higher level
than consciousness? I would definitely say it
was the subconscious.
I believe that consciousness is just the figurehead
of our mind. He (the consciousness) seems to
have authority but really he has no power at
all. Maybe the ego is the consciousness, the
figurehead, trying to wield the power he does
not have. The ego is fragile and yet if it doesn't
get battered then watch out! Something worse
will happen! The ego is like a pressure cooker
with a dicky safety valve: if left to its own
devices... BOOM!
