On Madness
For your delectation,
below part seven of my correspondence
with the insane philosopher MadPole,
who is the only mortal who actually knows the
truth.

My problem is nobody appreciates my smutty puns
and being frivolous with English language -
people tend to correct me instead which is a
bit upsetting! But when I am making genuine
mistakes obviously very few people actually
correct me - usual "out of sync" duality and
so on...
MadPole:
Welcome to the world of Marketing and virtual
reality! Just occurred to me: people (including
myself) get excited about FreeServe etc.. But
at the same time - nobody really understands
money, not to mention Stock Exchange! We are
deeply, deeeply stuck already in virtual reality
and everytime we discover it we can not quite
believe it!

Someone said that the Internet doesn't mix with
reality. When you try to mix them insane things
happen. This is what is happening with Internet
stock going through the roof. Most of the buyers
are private hobbyists who find web companies
more interesting than, say, a supermarket chain.
Ironic that everybody is making money out of
stock exchange on the basis of nothing.
MadPole:
Mad is good! Being mad, and particularly being
mad and being able to control one's madness
is possibly the best and the MOST ... you know
the rest! Need to rush to the Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Quite, except the mad perhaps do not control
their madness. Only the sane to that, because
we are all mad. The only thing that varies is
the control.
MadPole:
Exactly my words! But if You turn them around.....

Methinks the way we control our madness is madder
than the madness it "hides"
MadPole:
True but false! Imagine being SO SO mad that
You don't really know what's going on but leave
in total ecstasy, everything is absolutely hilariously
funny etc. etc..... I have met people who live
like that - totally separated from the "real"
world and therefore treating it as just another
game, another LEGO blocks one gets for Xmas.....
Anyway, here is my new philosophy: Life is one
big trip. And then there is another one!

And yet if the seratonin levels in the brain
drop then one is depressed, trip or no trip.
Game over. But depression can be good. Great
art would not exist without it. In fact the
combination of depression, madness and talent
produces the best art. But probably the worst
office workers. Bring back alcohol and madness
into the office and see creativity in business
flourish. Actually there is total madness in
all offices but it is of the worst possible
sort. Are you sure there is another trip after
life? I wish I was convinced!
MadPole:
How about simplifying ALL RELIGIONS ?! Is there
a trip after life ? Ha! Here is the unified
answer to what all religions preach! Yes there
is - if You believe in it! The Power Of Perception!
Who are You ?! Apart from your brain and body?
You are a figment of perception, the bits of
energy combined together. When someone dies
- their bodies "die" - but not the energy! Energy
can not be destroyed - only transformed! Even
if You are your body only - this body will decompost,
merge with other substances, create other energies
and entities. Depressing as it sounds - there
is no escape - nobody CAN die! And religion
"If You believe in God You will go to heaven"
means: Believing is simply training your "energies"
so they know what to do when the brain is dead.
No - no good day today. But yes - conclusion
is very religious one: If you believe there
is nothing after death - than there won't be!
This is called "hell". If you believe there
is something after death than your wholeness
will not be lost. This is called "heaven". The
word "Trip" I used is much more universal than
that and by its definition includes depression
and pain and madness and everything else. Exactly
- this is just a trip - just being in some weird
Fun Fair! And hey presto - if one does not know
that it is only Fun Fair one gets frightened
and can't see a way out.
Think about it! All the pain, frustration, time
spent worrying, being upset etc.... And then
2 words: "Fun Fair". And suddenly one laughs!
What a fool one has been ?! What a wonderful
fool?! And suddenly one feels infinitive gratefulness
to those news, those 2 magic words! Paradise
has started! And it took 2 words to create it!
And one goes and speaks to others: "My human
fellows - this is only fun fair!" But they are
scared of him They are scared, because if what
he is saying is true - then they wasted all
their lives on worrying etc... Their lives,
goals, ambitions become invalid! Fools - the
only problem they have is that they don't know
how to laugh! They are offered a liberation
but they are scared. The Ego wins again. And
the good man with a good news is nailed to the
piece of a tree. They can't have him and live
their lives. He is a proof that PARADISE is
a easily obtainable commodity.

inspiring - at least until you have to do work.
Washing up and work have no place in a fayre
ground!
MadPole:
You would not have information without energy
- energy is what allows information to....form
itself! Information without anything else could
not exist! Oh come on! What is Information Technology
? A lot of organised electrons - energy! What
is a Library - a lot of books - atoms - energy
(not to mention energy put into writing them!)
But hey - what was first - an egg or a hen ?
I'll will not insist whether it is energy or
information!
eadon:
Life depends on info and if you destroy the
info you irreversible destroy the life. Another
whimsical insight - the total energy of the
universe is zero, gravity cancels matter and
radiation energy. And yet there is still life!
MadPole:
By "energy" I mean "something"! Can anything
exist without energy ?! Information is a method
of organising "something" How can You talk about
information WITHOUT ANYTHING! NO BLOOY WAY!
Let's get it clear what is "energy" - because
we are not arguing about what we think we are
arguing! At the moment we are discussing the
definition of "energy" and we have to pass this
stage in order to continue! So stuff energy!
"stuff" actually is quite nice word - I mean
something - atoms, electrons, protons, nucleus
whatever! Light - it is all a "stuff", something.
Information is only a method of organisation
- information cannot exist if there is nothing
to organise and nobody to witness it!
eadon:
Yes, kind Sir, that is all very well, but information
can be created and destroyed, ironically by
energy! I surmise that life is a side effect
of information. If you ruin the information
you ruin the life. And entropy will see to it
that it is permanent. It is very simple. Death
destroys information which is the relationship
between the atoms. If you separate the atoms
then its game over! Its like levels! Life exists
at the level of information, which is a higher
level than energy. Separate the atoms of the
brain and the mind ceases to exist, because
the mind is a side effect of the incredibly
complex relative positions of those atoms. The
only way out is to surmise the existence of
a soul. But that is believing in magic. When
you say energy, are you referring to a soul?
MadPole:
Precisely! Precisely! So we are talking about
ABSOLUTELY the same thing after all! Separate
the atoms and the mind will cease to exist!
ABSOLUTELY! I prefer the word "brain" Perhaps
I will sneakingly wrap up the day by making
this simple statement: Is your brain You ?!
Only You can answer this question. If You think
that your brain is You then there is nothing
to discuss!
MadPole:
I was talking about "energy" not as energy but
as a lowest level, smallest denominator! It
is "true" - isn't it ?! Matter is made of energy,
isn't it ? And it does not matter anyway!
eadon:
Very true! A neural computer will behave similarly
whether it is made of silicon powered by the
national grid, biological brain cells powered
by chemistry or software. It behaves the same
independently of what it is made of. Therefore
I agree with you that energy and matter are
a prerequisite, but they are of no importance,
behaviour wise. One type of matter/energy can
be substituted for another. Only structure is
important.
MadPole:
Funny - women accuse man of being materialistic,
logical, and without emotions but it is women
who are practical, logical and don't give a
damn about Universe!

Does zero exist?]
eadon:
Zero exists all right! It is the solution of
many equations. For example zero is the solution
to Fermat's last theorem, ie there are exactly
zero solutions for n > 2 In the real
world it can denote the absence of things, eg.
if you have zero cash then you is broke. Zero
does exist as an object mathematically but in
reality it denotes absence. Question for you
- an infinitesimal is a number smaller than
any number you can imagine yet larger than zero.
Does that exist?
MadPole:
The only purpose of maths is to capture, encapsulate
and describe in words certain patterns repeatedly
occurring in so called "life" or "Universe"
or "reality". Maths is no different from religion,
dance or game of chess. They all use the same
methodology to describe the world around us:
by identifying patterns, rhythms and structures,
causes and effects, building blocks, base classes.
And then expressing those patterns, structures
interacting in multi-dimensional space, by inventing
unique abstract system which would allow to
express interaction as well as evolution, time
as well as many dimensions, building blocks
and microscopic elements, parents and children,
cause and effect.
In fact anything I think of uses more or less
the same PATTERN! This is a MASTER PATTERN!
Pattern which other pattern use to develop their
own patterns. Music, literature, all arts -
they are all small mini-systems trying to mirror
certain aspect, certain flow of life. In fact
work, for me anyway, is the same. Work is not
about going there or earning money. It is about
being there, being involved in a bigger machine,
bigger entity. Entity which is out of control
and although all its parts know it, they can't
do anything about it...evolution if action and
I am witnessing the next level of consciousness
- from individual to collective! Because any
company has its own personality, identity, it
is entity on its own, totally separate from
people who form it. The whole is always bigger
than its parts.
And zero ? Well. The whole purpose of maths
is to mirror certain aspects of life. Zero is
simply a symbol for nothing. And therefore is
as awkward. Maths have to justify zero just
as we have to justify usage of nothing. But
we don't really understand the concept of zero
because we don't really understand the concept
of nothing ("I have nothing to say!" - that
does not make sense - if there is nothing to
say why say it?). "Nothing" is an abstract concept.
It was not invented to be understood. It was
invented to be used in language. A human, grown
up on a desert island would probably invent
his/hers own small vocabulary. But I can't see
how this human would arrive at the word "nothing".
It seems impossible. It's not human nature.
It sounds mad and crazy. Human brain likes facts,
experiences, images. It likes the things it
thinks ARE, not the things it thinks ARE NOT.
Man, left on his own, would not think about
nothing. He would think about something, most
likely sex. The Universal Rule Of Opposites
forced therefore poor woman to invent "nothing"
- the abstract term invented purely for purposes
of gaining some power and influence over her
food provider. "Nothing eat. Nothing w*nk-w*nk."
was apparently the very first usage of this
word. So there you go. Zero is an evil invention
of left-wing lesbian feminists. And they turned
up on this planet long time before maths were
invented. Resist nothing and have something
in return! Maths, like everything else, attempts
to take a slice through life, keeping only -
oh b*llox I am going to bed!
