'Take one second at a time' - famous Zen koan says, throwing the listener into oblivious panic and panicky oblivion. One's brain finds itself in turmoil, one's logical facilities are temporarily paralyzed - for if one second IS NOT A TIME, what is then?
One's deepest beliefs and strong, pathetic misunderstandings are destroyed by this simple, beautiful sentence. The walls of atomic bunker one lived in all his life crumble like stale biscuit and one can see the sun and hear birds for the first time.
